Adder's-tongue fern thrives in consistently moist, humus-rich soil in a partially shaded woodland setting and is very difficult to establish outside its natural habitat. It does not tolerate drought or disturbance well, making it best suited for dedicated native plant or woodland gardens. Avoid disturbing the roots and replicate its natural meadow or woodland-edge conditions as closely as possible.
