Alpine clematis
Clematis alpina
Alpine clematis is a charming early-spring bloomer that produces nodding violet-blue or white bell-shaped flowers before most other climbers awaken. It prefers a cool, partially shaded position with its roots kept moist and cool, and it is exceptionally cold-hardy, tolerating alpine conditions. Prune lightly after flowering to shape, as it blooms on the previous year's wood.
