American black currant

American black currant is a hardy, deciduous shrub that produces edible dark berries beloved by birds and wildlife, and is easy to grow in moist, fertile soils with partial shade. Plant in a sheltered location with good air circulation to reduce the risk of fungal disease, and prune older canes in late winter to encourage productive new growth.
