Asclepias tuberosa subsp. rolfsii

Rolf's butterfly weed is a southeastern native milkweed subspecies prized for its vivid orange flower clusters that attract monarchs and other pollinators. Plant it in well-drained soil in a sunny to partly shaded spot and water moderately, as established plants are fairly resilient. It emerges late in spring, so mark its location to avoid accidental disturbance and do not cut it back too early in the season.
