Ball-head onion is a striking ornamental bulb native to Mediterranean Europe, producing eye-catching dense, rounded heads of deep reddish-purple flowers atop tall stems in midsummer. It thrives in full sun with very well-drained or even poor, dry soils and is excellent for rock gardens, gravel plantings, and border edges. Plant bulbs in autumn, water minimally, and leave undisturbed to naturalize over time.
