Bastard-sage is a tough, drought-adapted native shrub from arid regions of the American Southwest that thrives in well-drained, rocky or sandy soils with minimal irrigation once established. Plant in a sunny to lightly shaded spot and avoid overwatering, as it is highly susceptible to root rot in wet conditions.
