Black horehound
Ballota nigra
Black horehound is a robust, woolly-leaved perennial herb that thrives in poor, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. Once established it is very drought tolerant and requires minimal care, making it an excellent choice for dry borders or herb gardens. It has a long history of medicinal use but note that all parts of the plant have a strong, unpleasant odour.
