Black mangrove is a highly specialized coastal tree adapted to saltwater tidal flats and is best suited for restoration projects or large-scale coastal landscapes in USDA zones 9–11. It requires permanently wet, saline or brackish soil and full sun, and is not a practical choice for typical home gardens. This species is best purchased for habitat restoration purposes and should be planted by professionals familiar with coastal ecosystems.
