Bog-asphodel
Narthecium ossifragum
Bog-asphodel is a specialist plant native to acidic, waterlogged bogs and heathlands, and it demands very specific growing conditions — permanently moist, nutrient-poor, acidic peaty soil with no lime. It produces beautiful golden-yellow flower spikes in summer but is not suited to conventional garden beds or containers without careful recreation of bog conditions. Best grown in a purpose-built bog garden or alongside other acid-loving bog plants such as sphagnum moss and sundews.
