Brown pine
Prumnopitys ferruginea
Brown pine is a handsome New Zealand native conifer that grows slowly into a large, ornamental tree with attractive dark foliage and fleshy red fruits that birds love. Plant it in a sheltered, partially shaded position with well-drained, humus-rich soil and water regularly until well established. It is best suited to large outdoor gardens in mild temperate climates and requires minimal pruning once settled.
