Cheat grass (Bromus secalinus) is a robust annual to perennial brome grass historically associated with grain crops, valued today primarily in native seed mixes and restoration plantings. It grows readily in full sun to part shade in average soils and requires very little care once established. Best used in naturalistic or ecological plantings rather than ornamental gardens, where its drooping seed heads provide winter interest and bird forage.
