Chinese chestnut is a fast-growing, blight-resistant shade tree that produces edible nuts in fall when two or more trees are planted for cross-pollination. Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic soil in a full-sun location with plenty of room for its broad canopy. Water regularly during the first few years to establish deep roots, and rake up fallen nut husks to keep the area tidy.
