Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus subsp. axillaris

This subspecies of yellow rabbitbrush is a tough, drought-tolerant shrub native to the intermountain West, producing masses of bright yellow flowers in late summer and fall that are a vital late-season pollinator resource. Plant in full sun to light shade in fast-draining, lean soil — rich or moist soils can cause leggy growth and decline. It requires virtually no supplemental water once established and thrives on neglect.
