Cucumber-tree is a large, fast-growing native magnolia that thrives in moist, well-drained acidic soils with full sun to partial shade. Water regularly during the first few years to establish a deep root system, then it becomes relatively self-sufficient. Minimal pruning is needed; simply remove dead or crossing branches in late winter before new growth emerges.
