Desert bitterbrush is a tough, slow-growing native shrub ideally suited to arid and semi-arid Western landscapes with excellent drainage. Once established, it requires very little supplemental water and thrives on neglect in poor, rocky, or sandy soils. Plant it in a sunny to partly shaded spot and avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
