Dockmackie (Viburnum acerifolium) is an excellent native shrub for shady woodland gardens, producing creamy white flower clusters in spring followed by attractive berries that birds love. It is slow-growing but very low maintenance, tolerating deep shade and dry conditions better than most viburnums. Its maple-like foliage turns stunning shades of rose, red, and purple in autumn.
