Early dog violet is a charming woodland perennial that naturalizes beautifully under deciduous trees and in shaded borders. It prefers cool, moist, humus-rich soil and partial shade, requiring little care once established. Allow it to self-seed freely for a naturalized carpet effect, and avoid heavy fertilization which encourages foliage over flowers.
