Eaton's penstemon is a bold, easy-care perennial producing striking scarlet tubular flowers that hummingbirds find irresistible. Once established, it is quite drought-tolerant and thrives in well-drained soils with minimal fertilization; overwatering is the most common mistake to avoid. Plant in a sunny to partly shaded border and cut back spent flower stalks to encourage a tidy appearance and possible reblooming.
