Eglantine, or sweet briar rose, is a hardy deciduous shrub prized for its apple-scented foliage, small pink flowers, and bright red hips that attract birds in autumn. Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil and prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape. It is very low-maintenance once established and highly tolerant of poor soils.
