Elm-leaf blackberry is a vigorous, thorny shrub that produces abundant edible blackberries in summer and is excellent for wildlife hedging and naturalistic plantings. Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil and be prepared to manage its spreading habit with annual pruning after fruiting. Its arching canes can be trained along a fence or allowed to form a dense, wildlife-friendly thicket.
