Spreading buckwheat (Eriogonum effusum) is a tough, drought-adapted perennial native to the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain region, thriving in full sun with excellent drainage. It requires very little water once established and performs best in lean, sandy or gravelly soils — avoid rich, heavy, or moist soils. This low-maintenance plant is an excellent choice for xeriscape gardens and attracts a wide range of native pollinators.
