European field elm is a large, long-lived deciduous tree well suited to parks, large gardens, and streetscapes where it provides excellent shade and wildlife habitat. It prefers well-drained to moist soils in full sun to partial shade and is relatively adaptable once established. Note that like other elms it can be susceptible to Dutch elm disease, so source disease-resistant cultivars where possible and monitor for early signs of infection.
