European frog's-bit
Hydrocharis morsus-ranae
European frog's-bit is a free-floating aquatic plant that grows on the surface of calm, still water and makes a charming addition to backyard ponds and water features. It requires full to partial sun and spreads readily by runners, so monitor its growth to keep it from overtaking smaller ponds. In colder climates it overwinters as dormant buds that sink and re-emerge in spring.
