Fragrant orchid
Gymnadenia conopsea
The fragrant orchid is a stunning European terrestrial orchid bearing dense spikes of highly fragrant pink to lilac flowers, best suited to calcareous grassland or rock garden conditions with excellent drainage and partial shade. It requires a specialist mycorrhizal soil environment and is notoriously difficult to establish outside its natural habitat, making it a challenge even for experienced gardeners. Do not attempt to transplant from the wild; source only from reputable specialist nurseries
