Spanish broom (Spartium junceum) is a vigorous, drought-tolerant shrub that produces masses of intensely fragrant yellow flowers in summer. Plant it in full sun with well-drained soil and very little supplemental watering once established. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and prevent it from becoming overly woody.
