Great horsetail is a striking prehistoric-looking plant that thrives in moist to wet soils in partial shade, making it ideal for pond margins, rain gardens, or wild areas. It spreads aggressively via underground rhizomes, so planting in a contained bed or buried root barrier is strongly recommended to control its spread. Once established it requires little care, but regular division helps keep it in bounds.
