Heath rush is a tough, wiry perennial sedge-like plant well adapted to acidic, damp, and nutrient-poor soils, making it ideal for bog gardens or naturalistic moorland plantings. It requires very little care once established and is well suited to full sun or partial shade in consistently moist conditions. Avoid dry or alkaline soils, as it naturally grows on peaty heathlands and moorlands.
