Southern catalpa is a fast-growing shade tree prized for its large heart-shaped leaves, showy white flower clusters in early summer, and distinctive long bean-like seed pods. It adapts to a wide range of soil types and is remarkably tolerant of urban conditions including pollution and compaction. Plant in full sun to partial shade with adequate space, as it can reach 40–60 feet tall at maturity.
