Indian millet (pearl millet) is a warm-season grain grass that grows vigorously in hot, sunny conditions with well-drained soil. It is notably heat and drought tolerant, making it well suited to arid and semi-arid gardens as well as food gardens in tropical and subtropical climates. Sow seeds directly after the last frost, thin to proper spacing, and fertilise moderately for best grain production.
