Intermediate polypody is a hardy, evergreen fern native to western and central Europe, well suited to shaded rock gardens, walls, and woodland borders where many other plants struggle. It prefers a humus-rich, well-drained but moisture-retentive soil and dappled or deep shade, making it an ideal low-maintenance choice for dark garden corners. Water regularly during dry spells and remove old fronds in early spring to encourage fresh growth.
