Kermes oak is a tough, slow-growing evergreen shrub or small tree native to the Mediterranean basin, well adapted to poor, rocky, and dry soils. Once established, it requires very little care and is excellent for xeriscaping, wildlife hedges, and erosion control on dry slopes. Its spiny leaves and dense growth provide excellent shelter for birds and small wildlife.
