Lesser asparagus
Asparagus acutifolius
Lesser asparagus is a wiry, scrambling Mediterranean perennial with fine needle-like foliage that thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny to partly shaded position. It is slow to establish but relatively low-maintenance once settled, tolerating dry spells better than common asparagus. Provide some support for its climbing stems and mulch around the base in colder climates for winter protection.
