Silver bush lupine is a striking woody perennial native to California and Oregon, producing showy violet-blue flower spikes in spring and early summer. Plant it in well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil in full sun to light shade, and avoid overwatering as it is sensitive to root rot in heavy, wet soils. It is excellent for native, pollinator, or coastal gardens and fixes nitrogen in the soil.
