New york ironweed

New York ironweed is a robust native perennial prized for its vivid violet-purple flower clusters that bloom in late summer and attract clouds of butterflies. Plant it in moist, partly sunny spots such as rain gardens, pond edges, or meadow plantings where it will naturalize with little care. Cut stems back to the ground in late fall or early spring to maintain a tidy appearance.
