Official vervain is a slender, upright perennial herb with a long history of medicinal and ritual use, thriving best in full sun to partial shade in average, well-drained soil. It is low maintenance, tolerates poor soils, and attracts a wide variety of pollinators with its small lilac flowers throughout summer. Deadhead spent blooms to extend flowering and cut back hard in early spring to encourage vigorous new growth.
