Ohio buckeye is a striking native shade tree known for its showy spring flower clusters, bold palmate leaves, and distinctive spiny-husked nuts in autumn. Plant in a location with full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and give it plenty of room to spread. Note that all parts of the plant are toxic to humans and animals if ingested, so site it away from areas frequented by children and pets.
