Old-field goldenrod is a tough, low-maintenance native perennial that thrives in average to poor, well-drained soil with full sun to partial shade — it rarely needs fertilizing and is highly adaptable to difficult growing conditions. It produces bright golden-yellow flower plumes in late summer and fall that are an invaluable nectar source for pollinators. Divide clumps every few years to prevent overcrowding and maintain vigor.
