Oxytropis lambertii var. lambertii

Lambert's locoweed is a native Great Plains perennial forming low clumps of silvery, pinnate leaves topped with vivid purple to reddish-purple flower spikes in late spring. It performs best in full sun with poor to moderately fertile, sharply drained soil and is well suited to prairie restorations, rock gardens, and native wildflower plantings. All parts are toxic to grazing animals, so site carefully in mixed-use landscapes.
