Pacific azolla is a free-floating aquatic fern that spreads rapidly across the surface of still or slow-moving water, turning red in bright sunlight. It is highly valued as a natural nitrogen fixer and bio-fertilizer, making it a useful addition to wildlife ponds and water gardens. Monitor it closely as it can multiply quickly and may need thinning to prevent it from completely covering the water surface.
