Penstemon gairdneri

Gairdner's penstemon is a compact, showy native of the Intermountain West that produces tubular lavender to purple flowers beloved by hummingbirds and native bees. Plant in sharply drained, sandy or gravelly soil in a sunny to lightly shaded spot and water moderately, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. It is short-lived in poorly drained soils, so excellent drainage is the single most important factor for success.
