The Peruvian apple cactus is a tall, striking columnar cactus that is very easy to care for, requiring bright light, infrequent watering, and fast-draining cactus soil. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and reduce watering further in winter to avoid root rot. It can be grown indoors as a dramatic focal point or outdoors in warm, dry climates where it will eventually produce edible red fruits.
