Petty whin is a small, spiny native shrub that produces cheerful yellow pea-like flowers in spring and early summer, making it an excellent choice for wildlife and heathland gardens. It thrives in poor, acidic, well-drained soils and requires very little maintenance once established. Avoid rich or waterlogged soils, and trim lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape.
