Polystichum imbricans subsp. curtum

This California native fern subspecies thrives in shaded, rocky woodland habitats and is an excellent choice for a shady garden bed or naturalistic fern planting. Keep the soil consistently moist and rich in organic matter, mimicking the cool, humus-rich conditions of its native chaparral and woodland slopes. It is a tough, semi-evergreen fern that rewards neglect once established in the right conditions.
