Red trefoil
Trifolium rubens
Red trefoil is a ornamental clover with striking deep crimson flower spikes that attract bees and butterflies throughout summer. Plant in a sunny to partly shaded border with average, well-drained soil and minimal fertilisation, as it fixes its own nitrogen like other legumes. It is a low-maintenance perennial that naturalises well in meadow or cottage garden settings.
