Retama sphaerocarpa is a tough, drought-adapted shrub native to the western Mediterranean that thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soils. Water sparingly once established, as overwatering is the most common mistake — it is far more tolerant of dry conditions than wet ones. It makes an excellent low-maintenance specimen for xeriscaping or a sunny border in a mild-winter garden.
