Sassafras

Sassafras is a handsome native North American tree prized for its distinctively mitten-shaped leaves, aromatic bark, and brilliant orange-red fall color. Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic soil with partial to full sun and water regularly during the first two years while the tree establishes its deep root system. Once mature, sassafras is low-maintenance and largely drought-tolerant, spreading gradually via root suckers to form attractive naturalistic groves.
