Shortfruit evening primrose is a low-growing perennial native to the arid Southwest, producing showy yellow flowers that open in the evening and attract pollinators including moths and hummingbirds. Plant it in well-draining, sandy or gravelly soil in a sunny to partly shaded spot and water sparingly once established. It is an excellent choice for xeriscape gardens, rock gardens, and native plant landscapes across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
