Silphium perfoliatum var. perfoliatum

Cup plant is a vigorous, fast-growing native perennial that produces cheerful yellow daisy-like flowers atop tall, square stems throughout summer and into fall. Its distinctive perfoliate leaves form a cup that collects rainwater, providing a natural drinking source for birds and insects. Plant it in average to moist soil with partial to full sun and give it plenty of room, as it can reach 6–8 feet tall.
