South African bluestem is a tough ornamental grass that performs best in full sun and well-drained soils, requiring very little supplemental watering once established. It is well suited to erosion control, roadside plantings, and low-maintenance landscapes. Cut back the clumps in late winter before new growth emerges to keep the plant tidy.
