Umbrella magnolia is a striking native understory tree prized for its enormous leaves and large creamy-white flowers in late spring. It prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil in partial shade and does not tolerate prolonged drought. Mulch generously around the base to retain soil moisture and protect its shallow roots.
